A Surprisingly Interesting Museum on the History of Money

Today we visited the Bank of Korea Money Museum. I have to be honest, I really wasn’t expecting much. Located near the City Hall subway station (Lines 1 & 2), it’s very easy to get to, and entrance to the museum is free.

Walk up a few steps, and once inside, you are greeted with a huge, well-lit open hall. The security guard guided us to start on the second floor.

There is a surprising amount of stuff to see at a museum whose sole focus is on the history of money!

On the second floor, there is a small gallery of paintings, a replica vault, offices, and the current currencies of most countries of the world. We also had fun checking if our money was genuine and creating our own bank note (I think these were meant for kids, but hey…).

Back downstairs is mainly focused on the history of Korean Money.

We were a bit rushed looking around as the museum closed about 45 minutes after we entered. I would suggest allowing around an hour to properly browse all that’s on show.

This museum definitely gets my seal of approval, and being a kid at heart, I of course, made my own note.
